A heat pump works like a fridge in reverse. Instead of removing heat from inside and pushing it out, it takes free energy from the air or ground outside your home and moves it inside, converting it into heat for your radiators, underfloor heating and hot water.
For every unit of electricity a heat pump uses, it delivers up to four units of heat, meaning 75–80% of the energy heating your home is completely free, drawn from the environment around you.
In summer, the process reverses automatically, the same system that heats your home in winter can cool it during a heatwave, without any additional equipment.
